Getting involved in an Erasmus mobility project often requires finding funding. This is why the Erasmus program also includes financial aid possibilities such as grants.
The question is then: how to get an Erasmus scholarship? We explain everything in our article.
CONDITIONS TO GET THE ERASMUS GRANT
When you are looking for funding it is important to know whether you are doing an Erasmus mobility in a university or an internship abroad.
In both cases, the conditions for getting a grant are :
- Being a secondary level student in a school that delivers a diploma
- Having completed a first year of study
- The home and host institutions must be partners in the Erasmus program in the case of study mobility
- The duration of the stay must be between 3 months and 1 year
Some institutions may also add criteria such as a minimum average or knowledge of several languages.
ERASMUS+ GRANT AMOUNTS
For studies :
- Between 200€ and 300€ if the cost of living in the host country is high. The countries in question are Austria, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Liechtenstein, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Italy
- Between 150€ and 250€ in the other countries of the European Union as well as in Turkey and Macedonia
Please note that the registration fee is paid only once to the student’s home school. The host institution does not charge any fees.
For internships :
- Between 350€ and 450€ if the cost of living in the host country is high. This applies to Austria, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Liechtenstein, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Italy.
- Between 300€ and 400€ in the other European Union countries as well as in Macedonia and Turkey
HOW TO APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP
The student submits directly their application for an Erasmus grant to the international relations department of their home school.
Each institution sets the methods and deadlines for submitting the application. Applying for an Erasmus grant is done via a form that will be provided to you. As a general rule, the application is submitted by the end of September at the latest.
If it is a stay in a European country as part of studies or an internship, the trip must be prepared between 6 months and 1 year in advance. If you wish to benefit from this program, it is recommended that you contact your home institution as soon as possible.
OTHER POSSIBLE GRANTS
Of course, the Erasmus grant is not the only one you can apply for. Here are some other possible sources of funding.
- City grants: some cities offer additional assistance, such as Paris. The grant amounts to 160 euros per month. You can find more information on the city’s website Paris.fr

- General council grants: in some departments, it is possible to benefit from an international student mobility grant. To find out if you are eligible, contact your local council directly. You can find all the contact information on this page.
You may also be eligible to receive help from the school “the FNAU” for students who encounter difficulties or get a government guaranteed loan to finance certain projects.
