Today we are presenting a different article on our blog! Recently, we had the chance to meet Marie, a second year Master student in International Project Negotiation who is doing her end of course internship in Barcelona. She gave us a testimony about her internship, her tasks, her stay in Barcelona, but also about how her remote internship is going during COVID-19.
Here are the questions we asked Marie, come along!
How did your internship search go during COVID-19?
Marie: “ I encountered some difficulties in my search for an internship. It was more complicated than in other years: there were fewer ads, the missions were generally less interesting.
There were also fewer possible positions and even fewer opportunities abroad, most of the positions were remote. In general, it was quite complicated to find something that suited me.”
In our article “Finding an internship abroad during COVID-19” we give you some tips to succeed in your internship search.
Does your internship fit with your career plan?
Marie: Thanks to the extracurricular activities in college, I was able to have some experience in the field of event management. Also, in my master’s program I did some project management, which is at the heart of the internship I am currently doing. It’s an internship in project management in the field of event management. This is totally in line with my past experiences at the university and it is a field that I am particularly interested in for the rest of my professional career.
Mobi Trainee has allowed me to have an internship that is totally in line with my professional project in a setting totally different from what I’m used to. I’m abroad, in Barcelona, in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe. It is an internship that fits completely my professional project and that fulfills my expectations regarding the company and the team.
What are your tasks?
Marie: I have a lot of tasks in my internship, but I will mention the most important ones. First of all, I have to do a lot of research on the sponsors and on the participants, protagonists of the events we organize. It is also necessary to create and maintain a link with them, by email and by phone. I am also in charge of checking that their content does not differ from that of another speaker and that each theme is consistent with the general content of the conference. To conclude, I also have to set up the agenda.
How is your remote internship going?
Marie: “Personally, I find that working remotely has many advantages. First, I can work 100% independently. In my case, I have a lot of autonomy but I am not abandoned by my host company. My manager usually calls me several times and we do zoom calls with the team. I am constantly on the phone with them. Also, it should be noted that there is no more traveling between work and home..
Normally, I would lose about an hour a day of commuting time if I had to go to the office where we usually work. I can invest this time in research work or leisure activities.
Being in constant contact with the team is a huge advantage for me compared to other offers I had found.
