Opening of Serbia in the European teaching system
By participating in the Erasmus+ programme, Serbia opens to European education. In this way, Serbian universities’ opening is increasing. Indeed, Serbia has started the procedures to become a destination of the Erasmus+ programme in 2016. The influence of the Erasmus European programme will be developed in Serbia and will accelerate university mobility, which will be widely helped by the suppression of short stay visas.
Serbia will also develop new professional opportunities. Indeed, to answer to new future economic needs and to immediate individual needs regarding professionnalisation, the European Union will assist the Serbian government through a major reform for education and vocational training. International Serbian development
Serbia is very dynamic in terms of cooperation with the other European countries. Indeed, many agreements have been signed with almost every European country as well as with the United States. Also, we can also highlight the development of different inter-university agreements with emerging countries such as China, Russia or Brazil.
The major assets of Serbian education
Today, Serbia has 19 accredited universities: 8 public universities and 11 private universities. Serbia is a country with a big cooperation potential in the higher education sector. French institutions can now find quality partnerships in Serbia, especially in the research sector.
The Serbian education sector has numerous assets:
- on the university offer with 8 public universities and 11 private universities, with a greatly satisfying average quality education
- the selection for entry to schools, which is generally made in college, allows to keep the best students in the most demanded sectors
- the system of financing by the State budget, which concerns almost half of the students on merit criteria and provides an extended access to the higher education system for students coming from different social backgrounds
- the programs in English teaching are increasing and encourage foreing students to be interested in making their studies in Serbian
- the french tradition which is still very present with the Serbian academics, and is being strengthened with the establishment of several cooperation programmes through the university agency of francophonie
The France’s approach to Serbia
France wants to increase the number of Serbian students in its universities. To accomplish this, France wants to strengthen the student mobility and young professionals’ agreement. This way, this agreement will facilitate the opportunity to live an experience in France for Serbian students and to facilitate visa obtaining. This will also work in the other way, for French students who want to study in Serbia.
All of this will strengthen Serbian mobility communication for French students and to promote Erasmus+ mobility programme.
Serbia’s development within the Erasmus programme will allow the creation of new academic branches which match with the French school curriculums.
Also, thanks to the Serbian universities’ development, France will be able to increase its network in Serbia.
Serbia, by strengthening the Erasmus+ programme agreements , will increase the number of destinations and will expand the mobility possibilities. France will then take advantage of this development to reinforce its universities and its exchanges.
